About

The Canberra Gambling Reform Alliance

A coalition of local community organisations united by a shared belief that every person in our community deserves to live in a Canberra that puts people before gambling profits.

Why we exist

We exist because gambling harm in the ACT is the predictable result of an industry that deliberately designs its products to cause harm, and a regulatory environment that has not yet done enough to stop it.

The organisations in this alliance work every day with Canberrans affected by gambling harm. We understand the human cost of inadequate regulation and we know that the ACT Government has the power to change it.

That is why we are calling on all parties and independents in the ACT Legislative Assembly to commit to real, meaningful gambling reform that holds the industry to account and puts the wellbeing of our community first.

Who we are

A coalition of local community organisations united by a shared belief that every person in our community deserves to live in a Canberra that puts people before gambling profits.

Why we exist

Gambling harm in the ACT is the predictable result of deliberate industry decisions and inadequate regulation. The community sector has come together because the status quo is not acceptable.

What we are calling for

The CGRA is calling on the ACT Legislative Assembly to commit to eight concrete reforms. They include mandatory betting limits, a legislated reduction in poker machine licences, full venue transparency, and an end to gambling advertising in local sporting venues. These are achievable reforms. The ACT Government has the power to act.

Real reform takes collective action

Every Canberran who adds their voice, contacts their local member, or joins the alliance brings us closer to a community that puts people before gambling profits.
